The public sector has faced a surge of cyber attacks in recent months, targeting state agencies, schools and local governments, severely affecting operations. Several recently released
State and local governments can have a tough time employing cybersecurity solutions for reasons that range from the bandwidth it takes to find and vet the right products to the reality of budget constraints. Recognizing these limitations, the State Risk and Authorization Management Program, better known as StateRAMP, was created to help state and local governments, public education institutions, and special districts by providing a standardized approach to cybersecurity and risk assessment for cloud technologies.
Each state and local government can use StateRAMP– at no cost — to manage their cyber posture by verifying security products meet appropriate standards for protection of sensitive data, and comply with existing laws, regulations and policies governing privacy/security/encryption requirements. Keeper Security Government Cloud’s StateRAMP Authorization at the Moderate Impact Level provides assurance to state and local institutions that our product meets these stringent standards.
Keeper Security Government Cloud
Keeper Security Government Cloud (KSGC) is a platform for managing and protecting passwords, secrets and privileged accounts. It’s designed to be used by Cloud-based Solutions Providers (CSPs) as well as state and local government agencies who want to use the platform within their own data centers or cloud environments. Keeper’s advanced features include automated user provisioning, Active Directory sync, Single Sign-On (SSO), SCIM and developer APIs. Keeper seamlessly integrates with all major identity providers, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) solutions, identity governance and administration, hardware security modules, and Security Information Event Management (SIEM) solutions.
Keeper’s human-centric cybersecurity solution promotes adoption of password best practices, like the use of MFA, as well as strong and unique passwords for each account. This makes it easier for employees and contractors to protect themselves, and the organization, from common threats. In addition, Keeper also promotes secure collaboration with encrypted record sharing that allows system administrators to regulate privileged access to files while masking credentials.
StateRAMP is based on FedRAMP
Keeper’s StateRAMP Authorization comes on the heels of KSGC achieving FedRAMP Authorization at the Moderate Impact Level in August 2022. FedRAMP is a framework for security authorization that allows for the protection of information systems used by the federal government. In order to receive FedRAMP Authorization, organizations must implement controls from 17 different control families that originate from National Institute of Standards and Technology Special Publication 800-53.
StateRAMP was developed about a decade after FedRAMP to provide the same service to state and local institutions. Achieving StateRAMP Authorization is normally a two-year process that was streamlined through a reciprocity program thanks to Keeper’s FedRAMP Authorization.
Keeper Security University Program
Along with state and local governments, StateRAMP allows public universities to take advantage of the program. Keeper Security already has a great relationship with colleges and universities looking to protect themselves and their students from cybercriminals. The Keeper Security University Program brings our password manager to campuses nationwide offering protection to not just the university itself, but also its students. When universities use Keeper, they have the option to make it available to their students at no additional cost. For students who want to use Keeper, even if their university doesn’t offer it, we offer a 50% student discount.
