About Queen Consulting

Based in Virginia, Queen Consulting and Technologies is a managed service provider that delivers IT support, cybersecurity and compliance services to small and mid-sized organizations. The company launched over 11 years ago and supports clients ranging from 5 to 500 users. Its main customer base comprises federal contractors, CPAs, law firms and educational institutions.

Queen Consulting established its reputation by consistently delivering a hands-on, service-first approach. One of its core focuses has been helping federal contractors maintain contracts by fulfilling cybersecurity and compliance requirements.

The team has over a decade of experience specializing in federal security frameworks, such as NIST 800-171 and CMMC. It packages its expertise into curated service tiers, making complex cybersecurity and compliance requirements easier for clients to understand and adopt.

The challenge

A few years ago, Queen Consulting realized its approach to password management was no longer sufficient. The company had significantly expanded its practice, making this gap more noticeable, both internally and across its customer base.

Queen Consulting was storing a bulk of its credentials in a password-protected spreadsheet. As a result of the access requirement, many passwords were not regularly updated or reviewed. While this method worked in the early days, it was not designed for efficient permission management or sharing.

Many clients were still storing passwords in plain text, saving them in browsers or operating without visibility into who had access to what and when. These companies were not deferring to Queen Consulting for password management, as many were unaware of the concept. Because of this, the MSP proactively highlighted its importance.

The top security and operational challenges among its clientele included:

  • Sensitive credentials at high risk of exposure
  • Struggles tracking user logins across systems
  • Inconsistent access control that impacted onboarding and offboarding
  • Difficulty sharing credentials securely between users or with external partners

In many cases, clients did not understand the severity of the risks until they were shown. Once they grasped how easily passwords could be accessed or compromised, the priority for a dedicated solution became clear.

At the same time, Queen Consulting increased its work with federal contractors and compliance-driven organizations. Password management was not just a best practice – it became a baseline requirement in the NIST and CMMC frameworks. The MSP needed a solution they could standardize, recommend confidently and integrate into its broader “secure your business” approach.

Ultimately, the company faced a dual challenge: replace inefficient internal processes and help clients adopt a more secure, scalable way to manage credentials without additional complexity.

The Keeper solution

Keeper initially stood out for matching how Queen Consulting works as an MSP.

One primary differentiator was its multi-tenant platform. The MSP had to organize countless client environments, manage permissions cleanly and separate customer access from internal administrative access. Keeper ensured that level of structure, allowing the team to support clients at scale without blurring the boundaries between what clients could see and what Queen Consulting could manage.

From a security perspective, the MSP valued Keeper’s zero-trust architecture, FIPS-validated encryption and strong positioning tailored to government and financial institutions. To enable federal contractors, the MSP must invest in solutions that meet compliance requirements tied to NIST, CMMC and the Department of Defense.

“The ability to ensure reliable access control, enforce best practices and maintain federal expectations made Keeper a natural fit for us and our clients.”

A few other features left notable impressions:

Easy migration from LastPass made switching much simpler.

Built-in Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) support lets the team scan QR codes and manage authentication codes directly in Keeper, consolidating MFA management.

Shared folders provided a secure way to share records with clients, including cases where the client was not part of the associated Keeper environment.

Account transfer resolved a critical offboarding issue. When someone quits or is let go, the company does not lose access to key credentials.

Altogether, these capabilities elevated Keeper beyond a common password manager. It became a centralized system for managing credentials, enabling secure sharing, enforcing access controls and delivering the necessary structure to support internal teams and distinct client environments.

Organization impact

At a high level, Keeper enhanced both Queen Consulting’s internal operations and its overall service model.

In-house, the impact was immediate. The team eliminated the need to search through sprawling spreadsheets and manually track access across users. The MSP estimates that a single team member alone saves at least 1 hour per day using Keeper. That time savings derives from faster searches, streamlined sharing and storage of MFA-related details in one place rather than across various systems.

Keeper transformed secure sharing into a quick and reliable process. When Queen Consulting has to send one-time passwords or set up new accounts, the workflow is much smoother. One team member points out the convenience of recovering older credentials when an administrator account is tied to a restored virtual machine. Instead of relying on less secure workarounds, the team shares credentials in a consistent, trackable and controlled manner.

Keeper for clients

Customers benefited from both the security and usability. Those leveraging built-in MFA features were especially pleased to have 2FA codes automatically filled rather than pulling out their phones every time.

“Once our clients adopt Keeper, they really love it. They value having one place for all of their passwords, knowing where credentials live and setting up account transfer so passwords don’t disappear when an employee leaves.”

– Nathan Scott | COO, Queen Consulting

Deployment has also been straightforward. Queen Consulting usually handles onboarding directly for its clients, from provisioning the environment to configuring identity access. Adoption varies by customer type, but the MSP notes two features that have helped accelerate it: single sign-on and QR-based MFA setup.

A recent real-world example involves a Virginia-based government client with about 75 employees. The customer manages access to numerous government portals, vendor systems and partner platforms. Keeper gave them a single place to keep credentials organized and made it much easier to grant or revoke access when employees joined or left.

Bringing Keeper on gave Queen Consulting greater control over internal credentials, a stronger way to support clients and a practical tool for selling security and compliance services. The MSP introduces Keeper by offering complimentary licenses to one or two senior client contacts, which frequently leads to broader adoption across organizations. Currently, the team is piloting Keeper with the top three leaders at a new military academy to securely share information during onboarding.

For MSPs serving regulated clients, the unique combination of enhanced security, operational efficiency and built-in sales enablement is tough to ignore.

Benefits of MSP password management

Managed Service Providers (MSPs) can't protect their managed companies if they can't protect themselves. By breaching a single MSP, cybercriminals can gain entry into dozens, even hundreds, of other businesses. MSPs have limited visibility into the security practices of their employees and managed companies, which greatly increases cyber risk. Password hygiene cannot be improved without critical information regarding password usage and compliance. Keeper solves this by providing ultimate security, visibility and control.

Data is protected with Keeper’s zero-knowledge security architecture and world-class encryption. Zero-knowledge means Keeper cannot ever decrypt the customer’s vault contents; decryption occurs on the user’s device, and access is controlled by the customer’s keys and policies.

Keeper is intuitive and easy to deploy, regardless of business size. Keeper integrates with Active Directory and LDAP servers, which streamlines provisioning and onboarding. Keeper is FedRAMP High Certified and GovRAMP High Authorized.

Keeper is designed to scale for organizations of any size. Features such as role-based permissions, team sharing, departmental auditing and delegated administration support organizations as they grow. Keeper Commander provides robust APIs for integration with current and future systems.
