Accessing passkeys from multiple devices can be a hassle if you don’t use a passkey manager since they’re tied to the device on which they’re generated. This means you’d have to create a passkey on multiple devices or scan a QR code to access a passkey from devices that use different Operating Systems (OS). This is inconvenient, which is why you should consider investing in a password manager to store and manage your passkeys.

The challenge of accessing passkeys from multiple devices
Passkeys work using public key cryptography, meaning a public key and private key are required to log you in to your account. The public key is stored with the company you have the account with and the private key is stored locally on your device. These two keys work together to authenticate your identity when you sign in using a passkey. Since the private key part of the passkey is tied to the device on which it is generated, not being able to log in with your passkey on a different operating system can be inconvenient.
For example, let’s say you generate the passkey for your Amazon account on your iPhone but you want to log in to your Amazon account on a Windows computer. To log in using your passkey, you’d have to scan the QR code that appears on the Windows computer with your iPhone that has the passkey saved. Then, you’d have to follow the on-screen instructions to confirm that you want to sign in using the passkey. While the process to sign in with your passkey doesn’t take long, it can be an inconvenience if you don’t have your phone with you at the moment. Another option to sign in with your passkey on multiple devices would be generating a new passkey on every single device you use for the same account, which can also be inconvenient.
The best way to access passkeys from multiple devices
The best way to access your passkeys from multiple devices is by using a dedicated password manager like Keeper®. Keeper supports passkeys on iOS, Android, the Keeper Web Vault and desktop app, as well as on browser extensions that work on browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave and Safari. By storing your passkeys in Keeper, you’ll be able to access them from anywhere and on any device. Here’s how it works.
When you generate a passkey for an account and have Keeper’s browser extension installed, Keeper will intercept the passkey creation process by prompting you to create a passkey using Keeper.
By clicking “Create Passkey,” the passkey will be automatically stored in your password vault rather than on your device. The next time you go to log in to that account, Keeper will prompt you to use the stored passkey and with a click of a button you’ll be signed in. As long as you have access to Keeper from your devices, you’ll be able to sign in with the stored passkey from anywhere.
