Keeper Security has been named “Test Winner” in a group test of leading password managers conducted by CHIP Magazine, a leading consumer technology publication in Germany.
In the current edition CHIP 06/2023, the CHIP test center reviewed Keeper’s Personal Password Manager in a comparative test of 10 password management solutions. Keeper was awarded first place with an overall rating of “Sehr Gut” (Very Good) and a score of 1.1 (1.0 is a perfect score).
CHIP is a leading computer and communication magazine that offers customers helpful advice on buying a wide range of IT products. It is published in several countries across Europe and Asia. The online portal CHIP.de is the widest-reaching consumer portal on the German-language internet.
Every year, IT experts at the CHIP test center assess over 1,000 technology products and services, ranging from laptops to smartphones and digital cameras to connected cars. This information is compiled into leaderboards to help customers make informed decisions when purchasing technology.
Security accounts for 50 percent of the rating and examines the security architecture of each password manager, looking in particular at zero-knowledge encryption. Zero knowledge means that your passwords are generated and encrypted locally on your device, and only then can data be sent from the provider’s servers. The password manager provider cannot access your data vault, since it cannot access the encrypted data.
In its test, CHIP checks whether pre-existing passwords with low complexity can be imported, if there are additional protective measures such as two-factor authentication and how rigorously are security checks performed against stored passwords. They also test whether the password manager can provide alerts about stolen passwords found on the dark web.
With 30 percent for usability, CHIP reviews how each password manager performs on Windows, Android and iOS, evaluating the start-up, basic actions and the import of passwords. They also test use-cases like creating new entries, automatically filling-in password fields and changing passwords for existing accounts.
The last 20 percent of the rating comes from a features review. Syncing via alternative clouds as well as via WLAN, or your own server, are part of the test. They also run through search and sorting options and pay special attention to the password generator function. They look at whether a password manager supports a variety of devices and if it can be managed centrally.
In the test procedures, CHIP focuses on what really interests the buyer: Which functions are important? How well does a product fulfill its core tasks? Does the industry really keep their advertising promises?
Measurement is based on recognised test methods or ISO standards – with the goal to produce practical advice for CHIP readers.
Simply The Best!
CHIP judged Keeper the clear winner of the Password Manager Test, specifically citing its excellent security concept, abundance of features and ease of use.
CHIP declared that: “Keeper Personal sets the standard in many respects. The security concept is excellent: the tool assesses selected passwords, allows secure sharing and even offers emergency recovery. It also warns you if your data ends up on the dark web. Operation on Windows, Android and iOS is equally easy and it syncs automatically”. Concluding, the renowned comparison site named Keeper as the Test Winner recommending it as “the best all-round package for pretty much all use cases”.
Of course, Keeper offers its award-winning products for the business community as well. Keeper’s Enterprise Password Manager stands out as the ultimate solution for businesses and organisations due to its unparalleled features and industry recognition. Keeper has been honored with numerous prestigious awards, including the Cybersecurity Excellence Award and the SC Magazine Award, highlighting its exceptional capabilities in safeguarding sensitive information.
