A side-by-side comparison of Keeper and N-able Passportal across security, features, architecture and MSP capabilities.
A side-by-side comparison of Keeper and N-able Passportal across security, features, architecture and MSP capabilities.
Analysis is based on publicly available documentation and information as of August 12, 2026.
KeeperPAM® brings together enterprise password management, privileged session management, secrets management, Remote Browser Isolation (RBI) and endpoint privilege management into a multi-tenant cloud-native solution. There are no siloed tools, no separate deployment models and no secondary interfaces to manage.
N-able positions Passportal as a Privileged Access Management (PAM) solution, and it does cover several PAM fundamentals, such as credential storage, automated rotation, role-based access and audit logging. The platform is built around MSP credential and documentation workflows. Key enterprise PAM capabilities, such as session recording, secrets management and connection brokering, are not supported.
KeeperMSP supports multi-tenant management of passwords, PAM policies and privileged sessions across all client environments from a single admin console. Client data is logically separated with independent encryption at each tenant. MSPs can resell Keeper under their own brand and extend the full KeeperPAM platform, including session recording, secrets management and KeeperAI, to their clients as a managed security service. This means MSPs aren't limited to credential management; they can offer enterprise-grade privileged access security without building their own infrastructure.
Passportal is built for MSP credential workflows, with multi-tenant client management and a client-and-folder hierarchy. Integrations with N-sight, ConnectWise, Kaseya VSA, Datto, NinjaRMM and Auvik allow credential injection into RMM sessions. The product suite includes add-ons for IT documentation management, Passportal Site for brandable password management reselling and Blink for mobile-based self-service password resets. The platform does not extend to session recording, secrets management or AI-powered monitoring for client environments.
Keeper is built on a zero-knowledge, zero-trust architecture. Keeper has no ability to access your vault, your secrets or your infrastructure. All encryption is performed client-side before data ever reaches Keeper's servers, using AES-256 with PBKDF2 key derivation and elliptic curve cryptography. Session recordings are encrypted and decrypted locally using unique per-session keys managed by the customer-controlled Keeper Gateway.
Passportal encrypts credentials in transit and at rest across six randomly generated keys, with an Organisation Key held on the MSP side. However, based on publicly available documentation, Passportal does not have a true zero-knowledge architecture. The Organisation Key must be manually maintained, and resetting it makes all stored passwords permanently irretrievable.
The Keeper Vault is accessible via web, native desktop apps for Mac, Windows and Linux, mobile apps for iOS and Android, and a browser extension across all major browsers. Vault access can be retained offline when enabled.
KeeperFill® autofills passwords, passkeys and TOTP codes.
Passportal is primarily web-based with a browser extension for credential autofill and injection into RMM sessions. Mobile apps are available with limited functionality, and offline access is not supported.
KeeperPAM actively manages and secures non-human identities with full support for credential rotation, session recording, workload authentication, secrets retrieval and Just-In-Time (JIT) access. AI agents, CI/CD pipelines, scripts and other automated workloads are managed under the same unified platform as humans, with every operation logged.
Passportal supports automated credential rotation and can update scheduled tasks and Windows services, but the platform is not designed to manage non-human identities. There is no support for secrets management, workload authentication, AI agent governance or machine identity lifecycle management.
Automated password rotation runs through a lightweight gateway that performs actions locally; no firewall ports need to be opened. Rotation can be configured per record for service accounts, scheduled tasks and Windows services.
Passportal supports automated rotation with configurable expiry frequencies and can auto-update scheduled tasks and Windows services across the network.
Keeper SSO Connect® works with any SAML 2.0 identity provider, including Azure AD, Okta, Google Workspace and Ping, while maintaining zero-knowledge encryption throughout.
SCIM provisioning, AD/LDAP bridging and API-based provisioning are all supported.
Keeper's node structure organises users, teams and sub-admins by department or business unit, each with independent permission sets.
Passportal supports SSO with Azure AD and Active Directory, with two-way sync and auto-provisioning based on AD folders or Azure AD units. Not all Identity Providers (IdPs).
Access is organised by client and folder hierarchy rather than node-level segmentation.
KeeperPAM records SSH, RDP, VNC, database and remote browser sessions end-to-end. Every keystroke and screen interaction is encrypted and stored in the cloud. Recordings are decrypted locally using unique per-session keys, ensuring Keeper has no access to unencrypted session data at any point. The platform also supports JIT access, RBI, endpoint privilege management and SIEM integration for session events.
Passportal provides credential injection into RMM sessions via integrations with ConnectWise, N-sight, Kaseya, Datto and others. What happens after access is granted is not recorded or monitored. There is no native session recording, connection manager or privileged session auditing.
Keeper Secrets Manager is a fully cloud-native solution for securing infrastructure secrets, API keys, certificates and environment variables. It integrates with CI/CD pipelines out of the box and supports both dynamic and static secret workflows within the same platform.
Passportal is not designed for DevOps secrets management and does not integrate with CI/CD pipelines. The platform is unable to manage infrastructure secrets or API keys.
KeeperAI®monitors privileged sessions in real time, classifying every command as Critical, High, Medium or Low risk using large language model analysis. When a high-risk action is detected, KeeperAI can automatically terminate the session.
After each session, it generates an AI-written forensic summary with encrypted video playback, ready for audit and incident response. All processing happens inside the customer's environment, and KeeperAI is compatible with any OpenAI-compatible LLM provider, including AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic and self-hosted models.
Passportal does not include AI-powered session monitoring. There is no mechanism for detecting or responding to suspicious activity during an active session. Audit logs track which credentials were accessed and when, but follow-up activity is not visible on the platform.
KeeperDB provides passwordless, audited access to MySQL, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server directly from inside the Keeper Vault. Credentials are never shared with the end user; access is brokered through the Keeper Gateway, and every query is captured as part of the session record.
Administrators can enforce read-only sessions, grant time-limited access and control data exports. Teams using existing tools like MySQL Workbench or DBeaver can connect via KeeperPAM's Tunnel feature without credential sharing or firewall changes.
Passportal manages the credentials used to access databases but cannot broker or audit the session itself. The platform cannot monitor how credentials are used after access is granted.
BreachWatch® continuously scans the dark web for credentials matching those stored in the vault and immediately alerts users and administrators when a match is found. The Risk Management Dashboard provides a live view of password health, adoption and compliance posture across the organisation and the Advanced Reporting & Alerts Module (ARAM) supports SIEM integration and custom event alerting.
Passportal includes password complexity reports, login audit logs and credential age tracking with exportable outputs. Dark web monitoring, SIEM integration and an organisation-wide risk dashboard are not available.
Keeper is FedRAMP High and ISO 27001/27017/27018 Certified, GovRAMP High Authorised and compliant with SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, GDPR, FIPS 140-3 and ITAR.
N-able holds SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, HIPAA Type 1 and GDPR compliance. N-able does not hold FedRAMP, GovRAMP, ISO 27017 or 27018, or FIPS 140-3 certifications.
If your team has outgrown what Passportal can do or you need zero-knowledge encryption, privileged session recording, AI-powered threat detection or FedRAMP High Certified security, Keeper was built for exactly that. MSPs and enterprise teams use the same platform, and switching is simpler than you'd expect.
Yes, Keeper supports importing credentials from Passportal via CSV export. Once exported, credentials can be imported directly into the Keeper Vault, where they are immediately protected by Keeper's zero-knowledge encryption. Keeper's implementation team can assist with larger migrations to ensure records, folder structures and sharing permissions are mapped correctly.
Keeper has a full MSP platform with multi-tenant architecture, white-label reselling and client-level policy management. MSPs can offer Keeper as a managed security service to their clients under their own brand, with centralised administration across all accounts. That said, Keeper is also a full enterprise platform, which means MSPs can use it both to serve clients and to protect their own internal infrastructure, including privileged access and secrets management.
Zero-knowledge means Keeper has no technical ability to access your vault data. All encryption and decryption happens on your device; Keeper's servers only ever receive and store ciphertext. Even if Keeper were compelled by a court order or experienced a server-side breach, your data would remain unreadable. This is a meaningful distinction for organisations in regulated industries, government, healthcare or any environment with strict data sovereignty requirements. Passportal does not use a zero-knowledge architecture by this definition.
For most organisations, yes. KeeperPAM combines enterprise password management, privileged session recording, secrets management, remote browser isolation and endpoint privilege management in a single cloud-native platform. Organisations that previously required separate tools, including a password manager, a PAM solution and a secrets vault, can consolidate them all into Keeper. This also reduces the administrative overhead of managing multiple vendor relationships, integrations and licensing agreements.
